Invasion Day

Melbourne (2019)

In recent years, growing protests have erupted on the steps of Victoria’s Parliament House and the streets of Melbourne in response to the national day ‘Australia Day’, which celebrates the invasion of Indigenous Australia.

In 2019, record numbers of people hit the streets to raise a voice against the ongoing colonisation, including the high incarceration rates of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. A high police presence was in attendance at what was a peaceful protest, only disrupted by a handful of far-right racists.
